Again today it was just Twitchy and me on the trail. What a day it has been for the final day of the Pembrokeshire Coast Path. We started off feeling a bit apprehensive as you usually do on the last day of a long walk. This apprehension was compounded by the fact that today we had some monster hills to contend with; and it didn't take long for the path to throw that challenge our way.
I hate big hills and today was a real challenge. The weather was good with no rain, a bit of a sea breeze and not too hot (it did become a bit humid later in the day which made things a bit difficult). All we wanted to do was finish the day. We watched every step we took, we were cautious about over cooking ourselves and we took our time.
The path gets really close to the cliff edge in places and is quite creepy in this last segment.
There were a number of other walkers on the track; notably a 30ish German bloke who tore past us (We nicknamed him Superman to tie inn with Wonder Woman from yesterday.
As usual the guidebook maps were a bit of an issue. At one stage we ended up in the corner of a wall with no way ahead. We took the best trodden path and had missed the correct path which had not been sign posted (judging by the state of the incorrect path we were not alone in our off track excursion). After a bit of back tracking the correct path was found.
We stopped at the cafÄ— in Poppit Sands to by bottles of Coke to give us a boost for the final Km.
The path finishes in a bit of a lackluster fashion on sealed roasts for about 4 to5 km; we expected better.
We arrived at the official wknd set about 1700 and were met by Gail. After the photos at the finish Lib joined us and we had a great dinner at the pub (still in stinky walking stuff)
It is now done. Next walk (Offas Dyke) is in about 6 days. Between then and now we are travelling in Wales to set up for the next walk. I will publish a summary of this walk tomorrow but will most likely not publish much until the day before the next walk; Monday 16 Sep.
