We set off from the Castlemead Hotel at 0930. The weather to start with was a bit chillier than yesterday and the wind was still blowing off the ocean at about 15-20 knots. The wind was refreshing after walking through the scrub areas but it was difficult to stay upright in a few places.
Early in the walk the path took us along someone's driveway to a gate on the other side out their house (this is ok with the public footpath system here but still a bit strange to us). 2km into the day we were presented with our first big hill, the first of many. The hills combined with the wind made it a challenging day.
After what seemed like ages we arrived at the town of Freshwater East; a quick stop and then onto Stackpole Quay. We learnt, again, that guide book maps are for guidance only - the maps from Freshwater East to Stackpole Quay were lacking in detail and while the track is well sign posted it was still an annoyance.
For most of the day the track was narrow sheep furrows which were of clay soil and would be really slippery in wet weather.
We stopped at the Boathouse tea room in Stackpole Quay and had a much needed sandwich and pot of tea. There were heaps of people on the path moving between the tea room and Barafundle Beach, a really Beautiful beach and good as any we have back home.
Last part of the day was walking over the the cliffs of Stackpole Head and the down into Bosherston. The coastline here is really rugged with amazing rock formations.
