Bendy ODP Day 5 - Trefonen to Welshpool

31.67 Km in 8:00

Interesting day. We checked out of the Chain Bridge Hotel and drove to where we finished yesterday.  After a bit of a delayed start (due to some signpost misinterpretation) we headed off.

Within 1 Km we were at the top of Moel Ydd; this was the highest hill today but there was a few nasty hills a bit later.

Near the top of Moel Ydd

The decent down the back of of the hill had some challenging areas and we are thankful the weather was good and not wet. At Llanymynesh Hill there were a couple of blokes climbing the old quarry walls; braver than I am.

Climber

At the 11Km mark we were back on the Montgomery Canal tow path for about 2.5Km. The canal in this area is neglected and full of reeds and some pond slime but the water must be ok as there are fish, ducks and swans in it.

We ended up on the Offas Dyke and walked it for many Km on it. I know it is old and an archeological feature but it was for the most part underwelming. The first part was tree covered and quite beautiful as it skirted a golf course but the rest was a low dirt mound with livestock grazing on it (we played dodge the sheep and cows).

We had lunch (supplied by the Chain Bridge Hotel) after walking through a milk distribution truck yard- yep the path not only goes through people's yards but also through businesses.

We made good time on the flatish terrain and at the 26Km  mark we were back onto the canal tow path heading to Welshpool.

Locks on the canal

We checked into the Royal Oak Hotel at about 1715. Bigger day than expected day.
